About AGDA Poster Annual
Call for entries
The AGDA Poster Annual Call for Entries has now closed. Visit the website soon to view the shortlisted entries.
Eligibility
The AGDA Poster Annual 2009 is open to both professional and students from any field of design as well as those practicing design-related fields. Entries may be submitted on an individual, collective (i.e. studio/agency) or collaborative basis, providing a clear description of authorship is supplied with each submission.
The Objective
The key objective for the AGDA Poster Annual is to promote graphic design to the Australian public.
The focal point of this year’s event will be an exhibition in and around the Melbourne CBD. This will be done by creating a unique, engaging platform in the AGDA Poster Annual which celebrates the age-old art of poster design. Our aim is to give the annual a life outside of the exhibition space and allow it to exist online and throughout the city of Melbourne using out of home media and public gallery spaces.
We aim to work within the 2009 State of Design theme, Sampling the Future.
In summary, the key objectives for the AGDA Poster Annual are:
1. To promote graphic design to the Australian public, and;
2. To promote AGDA to the industry and the Australian public.
The Brief
Sampling The Future – Society is in a continual state of flux. We are now dominated by five major global conditions:
- Climate change
- Diminishing fossil fuels
- Globalised economic crisis
- Generational change, and
- New technologies
Using the poster format, demonstrate how design holds the potential to lead the parallel trajectories of business, science and society towards a common future. Judges will look for entries that best demonstrate creative thinking in regards to the points above, a progressive use of graphic design and an insight into the theme.

An independent observer will assist in this process. The Jury and judges will be looking for creative, original works that respond to the theme with particular attention paid to the process of creation. The Jury decision is final, the jury and or the organising comittee (AGDA Victoria) Will not be drawn into discussion in relation tot he process. From the short list, an additional panel consisting of a wide range of local, national and international designers and design-related personalities will each select a personal choice, including a brief rationale for their choice.
